I want to take a moment here to say how very, very sad I was to hear about the death of Frightened Rabbit's Scott Hutchison. We didn't respond to it on FB or Twitter or anything because none of us are really on them any more, but I want to make my small contribution here. We were lucky enough to play with Frightened Rabbit 3 or 4 times and though I don't remember ever meeting the band, those gigs are among my proudest moments. Scott's music struck a profound chord with me as it did for so many people and got me through some tough times, as it still continues to do. He was without doubt Scotland's greatest ever songwriter, and for me he is up there with the best ever; Bob Dylan, David Bowie, you name it. His songs are so incredibly powerful, so searingly honest and just so down right beautiful there are few other songwriters of his generation who can match him. His songs are a benchmark for everything I write. I basically have one finger picking style, and it's Poke. If I ever write anything half as good as Heads Roll Off or Nitrous Gas then I will be a happy man. The sheer quality and perfection of his best material is mindblowing- his best songs are supernaturally good. I want to thank him and FR for all the music they have made and for the impact it has had on me as a person and a songwriter. My heart goes out to his family, friends and bandmates who are grieving in a way I cannot imagine.
