This was the last song I wrote in Open C, and I like it because by this point I was really just playing the same shapes and chords over and over and thinking, hmmm, maybe there is nothing new to be written here, when suddenly my fingers found a new shape and pattern. Hurray fingers! Sometimes that happens and it is worth sticking with things even when it feels like it's not working. I like the line "spit and shoe-polish best". Did I steal it? Seems too good to be mine.
You can hear how this song would super benefit from a full band. The ending wants to build and get loud. It needs proper drums and percussion as well as real guitar riffs. My guitar "riff" would be better on synth: gentle and a bit fuzzy. I would make it about a minute longer with a longer second verse and ending and maybe a short instrumental somewhere. The words and the melody need tidying up a bit but I like this song. It is quite visual, with lots of scenery and "paints a picture" as an arsehole dickhead might say.
