Of all the demos over these three 3 demos albums this song is actually the oldest. I remember having it while I lived in Garvald, a community outside of Edinburgh where I lived and worked, and that must have been nearly ten years ago. I could never get any words for it that I liked so I would leave it for a few months and then come back to it, thinking it would get finished eventually and be considered for What The Noise Is For (which, in 2013, was going to be called Solid State Creep and was going to be released in 2015 or something) but nothing stuck, so I would then leave it for a couple of years and come back to it but every time I couldn't get anything that I liked. But I have just had a weeks holiday and finally finished it. It's silly really that it has taken 10 years to finish (but then we never do anything quickly) because it certainly does not sound like it took 10 years to finish. But then of course, writing a song for 10 years is not the same as breathing for 10 years. There were obviously huge chucks of time spent NOT writing this song. I have maybe spent 10 hours altogether writing it over 10 years. Anyway, it is finished and I'm happy enough with it. There is a nice line about performing in the dark to a closed red curtain and there are some nice melodies. It is not perfect, but then no demos are, and they're not supposed to be either. All I would change are some words probably, the music and structure is fine, unless something amazing and unexpected happened in the rehearsal room. It could be semi-acoustic or full band. It is not a Cannibal Anarchy song though. It was always called "You Tear Apart Beautiful Things" because the gunpowder bit only got added when I finished so it could also just be called "Gunpowder". I have called it both because I am an Oasis superfan and they did lots with brackets. Brackets are cool! Brackets are cool? Brackets are cool! You can choose your own title.
