All of these demos are recorded a little bit lazily, but this one is particularly lazy. It really needs to be played to a metronome, because its quite fast and has some quick changes, and it also needs to be played clean and crisp because its finger-picked and fast. I can't quite fit all the vocals in properly, especially the "Stockholm Syndrome" lyric in the choruses, I'm just not sure where it goes or how to sing it right. Maybe it just doesn't fit at all. The mid is also one half too long as it happens and doesn't need the instrumental pre-singing bit AND the repeaty de-du, de-du, de-du guitar straight after the mid is an accident. I forgot what to play, just went with it, and thought "fuck it, I'm not playing the whole thing again". But that's the sort of thing that you are allowed to do with demos.
This song would be full-on, loud and fast, but tightly played and direct rather than wild and splashy. I have a definite idea for machine gun drums in the mid, and the guitar part would sound much better on a relatively clean electric guitar rather than the rattle of an acoustic. I also like the title of 'Growing Thistles' and wasn't sure what to go for, but it says Stockholm Syndrome in the choruses. This song wouldn't need any Aaaahhhh backing vocals if it had a full band, but I like the backing vocals over the bridge parts and the end verse lines.
