I like this song. I think it is simple. And nice. This one works well as a little fingerpicky acoustic thing, but would sound better with a very boring full band behind it. There are some songs which need a lot of jazz and different things going on but there are others that work better when the musicians do the simplest and most boring thing possible. One of my favourite Coldplay songs (and therefore one of my favourite songs) is The Scientist. It's just bloody lovely isn't it! The piano goes 'bling bling bling bling bling bling bling bling...', the bass goes 'bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum...', the guitar goes 'reur reur reur reur ruer ruer ruer ruer...' and the drums go ;dum dum chu dum dum dum chu dum dum dum chu dum dum dum chu...' and that is literally all they needed to do, and the song soars and shines. It is very easy to over-complicate things (that's how you end up taking 6 years to finish your second album) and indeed some songs want to be complicated. But some songs just ask you to take things easy; not to put to much pressure on them; to love them just the way. The trick of course is knowing which song is which. And if you can figure that out then the earth is yours and everything in it, and - which is more- you'll be a songwriter my son.
